Introducing Lyra: Our School Dog

Lyra is our new school dog. She is a cockapoo, who was born in October 2024; her mum is a cocker spaniel called Evie and her dad is a poodle called Reggie.

Lyra lives with Mrs Bryant and her family. Whilst she is still little and training, she spends only a small amount of tie with the children. She says hello to them on the gate in the morning and most days she goes into classes for a short time so that she gets used to the noise and hustle and bustle of a school.

Over time, Lyra will build up the time she spends with the children, so that she can help them to learn nurturing and responsibility skills as well as being fabulous for the well-being of our school community. Research has shown that dogs are great stress relievers and for children who are struggling emotionally, or who need a little helping hand, Lyra will be there.

She is settling into school beautifully and is already loved very much. We can’t wait for her to grow with us as a part of the Branston Locks family.

School Closed due to snow

Branston Locks Primary and Nursery School is closed today (Friday 9th January) due to the adverse weather conditions.

Having assessed the site and the local area and observed advice from the met office, we have made this decision to ensure the safety of all staff, pupils and families.

Children should spend the day exploring the snow and enjoying it! Then, once they are warm they can practise their spellings, read their reading books and play Numbots.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 12th January.
