Letter from Headteacher, Mrs Bryant

I am honoured to be the headteacher of Branston Locks Primary and Nursery School, a member of the John Taylor MAT family. I can’t wait to welcome our learners and their families into our incredible community when the school opens in September 2024.

After 22 years of teaching (14 of them being in senior leadership roles), I am excited to start a new journey with the Branston Locks community. The early years of a child’s education are the important foundations for a successful future and every child should be able to access an inclusive, engaging and exciting curriculum that develops their curiosity and wonder about the world around them.

I have taught children across the primary age phase, from Nursery through to Year 6, with much of my career specialising in English, teaching and learning and safeguarding. Whilst I have spent the majority of my career in KS2, I have been leading Early Years for the last three years as well as being deputy head of schools in the Acocks Green and Castle Vale areas of Birmingham for the last 8 years. Born and bred in Staffordshire, with fond memories of Burton upon Trent, I am delighted to be back in the county I call home.

As a parent of two gorgeous primary aged children, I spend a lot of time reading children’s books. However, I love reading and make time for it every day – for my children and for myself. There are so many great children’s books, but I also really enjoy a really good murder mystery novel or fantasy story. Without a doubt though, Harry Potter is my absolute favourite and I have to admit to being a bit of a Potter fan! I’ve been lucky enough to go to the studios, visit Harry Potter world in Universal Studios, Florida and to the Forbidden Forest light shows as well as having seen ‘The Cursed Child’ in London.

Performance arts are also really important to me. My husband is a talented musician and when he’s not teaching English in secondary school, he often performs in venues around the Midlands which I love going to see, sing along and dance to. We regularly attend live music events and both enjoy theatre and film. It’s hard to choose a favourite, but I do love Disney films (almost as much as Harry Potter!)

I look forward to meeting you soon and welcoming you to, Branston Locks Primary and Nursery School in due course.

Best wishes,
Mrs Bryant

School Closed due to snow

Branston Locks Primary and Nursery School is closed today (Friday 9th January) due to the adverse weather conditions.

Having assessed the site and the local area and observed advice from the met office, we have made this decision to ensure the safety of all staff, pupils and families.

Children should spend the day exploring the snow and enjoying it! Then, once they are warm they can practise their spellings, read their reading books and play Numbots.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 12th January.
